The Riverside Riddle Loop
Lines show the order of stops, not the route — you choose the safe path between them.

Start at the blue bench by the bridge. Walk towards the water until you find the old iron post with a number stamped on top. Stand next to it.
Well found. That iron post is a Victorian mooring bollard — boats were once tied here.
Not quite — have another go. Open a hint if you'd like a nudge.

Look up at the bridge. How many arches can you count underneath it? Count them together and remember the number — you will need it later.
Great counting — five arches. Hold onto that number.
Not quite — have another go. Open a hint if you'd like a nudge.
Follow the path to the big tree with a green plaque. The plaque names a tree that 'never forgets its leaves in winter'. What kind of tree stays green all year?

An evergreen — well reasoned. This one was planted over 100 years ago.
Not quite — have another go. Open a hint if you'd like a nudge.
Cross at the pedestrian lights to the market square. Find the shop sign that reads 'THE OLD BAKERY'. Write down the FIRST letter of each word.
T - O - B. Tuck those letters away.
Not quite — have another go. Open a hint if you'd like a nudge.
Final stop: the fountain in the centre of the square. Remember the number of bridge arches from earlier? Count that many steps from the fountain towards the clock tower. What is written on the ground where you stop? Tell each other — there's no need to type it.
You did it — you read the town's founding year, set into the stones.
Not quite — have another go. Open a hint if you'd like a nudge.
Hunt complete
Mystery solved, explorers. You followed the river, counted the arches, and found the year this town began. The Riverside Riddle Loop is complete. Time for a treat from the market.
